The Genesee County Republican Party has passed a resolution calling for the establishment of a Second Amendment Sanctuary in Genesee County. The resolution urges county officials to protect the Second Amendment rights of residents by refusing to enforce unconstitutional laws that would infringe on individuals’ Constitutional right to keep and bear arms.
The resolution is a response to recent efforts by state and federal lawmakers to pass gun control legislation that many believe infringes on the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens, and also calls on lawmakers to oppose measures that weaken Second Amendment rights. It also calls on Genesee County officials to take a stand in defense of the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitutions, as well as Article 1, Section 6 of the Michigan Constitution, and to protect the rights of the citizens they serve.
The Genesee County Republican Party recognizes the importance of the Second Amendment in protecting the safety and security of citizens. By establishing Genesee County as a Second Amendment sanctuary, county officials can help ensure that citizens are able to exercise their rights and protect themselves and their families. Fifty of Michigan’s 83 counties have declared themselves as a Second Amendment Sanctuary, and over 60% of US counties have some form of Second Amendment Sanctuary in place.
The resolution passed with unanimous support from the members of the Genesee County Republican Party Executive Committee. The Genesee County Republican Party calls on County officials to take action to establish Genesee County as a Second Amendment Sanctuary in the near future.
