Resolution Supporting the Genesee County Small Cities & Villages Assoc.

WHEREAS, The Genesee County Small Cities & Villages Association has been a vital advocate for the interests and needs of the smaller communities within Genesee County;

WHEREAS, Local district courts play a crucial role in delivering justice and essential legal services to our residents, ensuring access to justice and a fair legal process;

WHEREAS, There is an ongoing discussion regarding the potential centralization of judges and courts into a single building in the city of Flint, which may negatively impact the accessibility and convenience of local district courts for our residents;

WHEREAS, We, the Genesee County Republican Party, believe in preserving the autonomy and unique identity of our smaller cities and villages within Genesee County;

BE IT RESOLVED, That we express our full support for the Genesee County Small Cities & Villages Association in their efforts to maintain local district courts within our smaller communities, ensuring residents have access to justice without undue travel and inconvenience;

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That we encourage our elected representatives and county officials to consider the local perspective and the importance of decentralized district courts, recognizing the unique needs and priorities of our small cities and villages;

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution may be transmitted to the Genesee County Small Cities & Villages Association and shared with our elected representatives, county officials, and other stakeholders to emphasize our commitment to preserving the integrity and accessibility of local district courts within Genesee County.

Adopted this Thursday, November 2, 2023 by the Genesee County Republican Party Executive Committee.
