Establishing a Second Amendment Sanctuary in Genesee County
WHEREAS, The Constitution of the United States, ratified on the 21st day of June, 1788, declares in Article VI, Section 2: “This Constitution, and the Laws of the United States which shall be made in Pursuance thereof; and all Treaties made, or which shall be made, under the Authority of the United States, shall be the supreme Law of the Land; and the Judges in every State shall be bound thereby, any Thing in the Constitution or Laws of any State to the Contrary notwithstanding.”; and
WHEREAS, The Second Amendment to the United States Constitution of America guarantees the natural, God-given Right to keep and bear arms, and protects Americans against any infringement of this Right; and
WHEREAS, The people of Michigan are guaranteed the right to keep and bear arms without any legislative infringement, under the authority of the Michigan State Constitution in Article I, Section 6: “Every person has a right to keep and bear arms for the defense of himself and the state.”; and
WHEREAS, The citizens of Genesee County value their Second Amendment rights and recognize the importance of protecting the right to keep and bear arms, while State officials are intending to pass legislation infringing upon the Rights of the people; and
WHEREAS, The Genesee County Board of Commissioners has the authority and responsibility to adopt resolutions that reflect the views and values of their constituents and defend the Constitution; and
WHEREAS, An establishment of a Second Amendment Sanctuary in Genesee County would send a message of support for the Second Amendment and demonstrate the county's commitment to protecting the rights of its citizens; and
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That the Genesee County Republican Party asks Genesee County Board of Commissioners, the Genesee County Sheriff, and the Genesee County Prosecuting Attorney to declare Genesee County, Michigan a Second Amendment Sanctuary; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Executive Committee of the Genesee County Republican Party will oppose any efforts by city, county, state, or federal officials to infringe on the Second Amendment Rights of its citizens and will use all legal means necessary to protect the Rights of the people.
FINALLY RESOLVED, That the Genesee County Republican Party asks all Michigan State Senators and State Representatives to vote NO on any legislation that infringes upon the Second Amendment Rights of Michigan citizens.
This Resolution was unanimously adopted by the Genesee County Republican Party Executive Committee on Thursday, March 2, 2023.
